Check out a selection of photos from the 2006 START Spring tour. We presented 40 workshops in Connecticut, Florida and California and would like to express a big thanks to our hosts and especially the kids who inspired new material for the workshops. EDC!...Explore>Discover>Create was a huge hit with everyone. Yeah, we're talking about teachers and parents as well. EDC...it's all about holding onto that kid in us. Enjoy!

START web release Feb. 2006

Bill Nye the Science Guy and Mike Scully ("The Simpsons") join forces with START on how to develop ideas.

Bob Gatzen just returned from filming guest celebrities for the next START DVD. This episode of the "START Cookin'" DVD series features Bill Nye the Science Guy and Mike Scully, executive producer and writer for "The Simpsons" TV series. Did you know that Mike Scully played drums in youth bands when he was a kid and to this day, drumming is one of his favorite hobbies? Or that Bill Nye was designing propulsion components for the Boeing 747 by day and at night, doing stand-up comedy appearing on a TV show called "Almost Live"?

The first DVD of the series features Emeril Lagasse and Doc Gibbs. "START Cookin'" focuses on how to get ideas. The theme of this upcoming episode, "The Science of Idea-Making" connects creative and academic mindsets and how the Arts and Sciences relate to each other. With the help of their celebrity guests, Billy and Bob will demonstrate how to develop and test ideas by inviting the kids into their favorite idea place, the "Drum-Tank".

START's West Coast production affiliate, Jonathann Launer, filmed the interviews. Jonathann is not only successful in the film and TV industry; he is an excellent drummer who produces CD projects. His latest release, "LA Underscore", features high profile guest artists in conjunction with his own band. Drummers rule!

Penfield Productions, a long time supporter of the START program, will be responsible for final production of the DVD. Primary granting for this project comes from the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM).
